Recycling & Crocheting

My kids think I'm nuts! I saw on a Crochet Partner's Blog a way to crochet using old T-shirts. She even put photos up showing how to cut the T-shirts so it was a continuous piece of material. Her site, http://debsgoinggreen.blogspot.com, is great!

The pic above is the beginning of a rug I hope to use on vacation this year. You know how wet the floor gets at the beach, I'm sure. I just imagine this cotton rug will be helpful in keeping things tidy after the kids and their friends finish at the beach. The rug above is made with circles of T-shirts. That is, I cut them in single pieces and joined with a slip knot. That was before finding Deb's website.

When you go through your clothing and decide something isn't in good enough shape to pass along, don't throw it away. Make a rug, a potholder, a pet bed... make something! If it isn't falling apart, it is still good material for another project.

I plan to make shopping bags using the plastic bags that are adding up in my kitchen. I do hate those bags! If I can put them to use making my own shopping bags, I'll never bring another home.
